Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

William Shakespeare – Sonnet 18

Those rough winds are certainly doing some shaking of the blossom in my garden today. There are lots of celebrations at the start of May and, in truth, a certain amount of confusion…I notice that the local paper said it was the beginning of Summer – but the Met Office says it’s on June 1st and June 21st is also known as both Midsummer’s Day and the first day of summer.  God bless England and our confusing customs…

I’m celebrating May for a whole different reason. Our new brochure is being launched this week which describes the Rekindle I’m trying to create and we’ll be talking about it at the Gloucestershire Business Show this week on Wednesday and Thursday and sharing information about members’ businesses too. I hope you’ve remembered to let Big Yellow have your brochures etc. by the end of play tomorrow.

Those that know me know my passion for learning. I hope I’m a good example of “you’re never too old to learn”. With all the changes going on in political, legislative, social and economic circles and technology being both an exciting friend and dangerous enemy (as this weekend’s massive cyber-attack illustrates) we need to keep up-to-date with all sorts of things.

That’s why I want learning to be an important part of our Rekindle community and its events. That doesn’t mean endless PowerPoints and boring lectures. I want to make it informal, informative and inspiring. Despite rumours to the contrary I’m not against networking by the way, I think it’s vital and another aspect of our learning. I think being curious about other people’s experiences, successes and failures, victories and defeats, triumphs and tribulations are all part of the value of networking and a rich source of new knowledge.

I’ve been lucky enough to have ClearWorth help me in developing and designing my event structure. I’ve attached a copy of our new brochure so you can see what the thrust is and this includes the timetable which is unchanged from last time. We’ll open the doors at 1100 for anyone who wants coffee and pastries, get started at 1130 and, at 1330, offer an optional structured learning session for anyone who wants to stay. We’ve also got two inspirational insights from Rekindle members on what they do, how they do it and why. I want you all to do one of these in the future.

A busy week this week so I won’t take up much more time on this letter.  Just to say I’d love to see you both at The Gloucestershire Business Show this week and the next Rekindle Event on Wednesday 24th May 2017 at our RAU venue.

With all best wishes
